Dear Kellan,
On the day you were born; some of of your people woke early alerted to your coming by strong and rythmic pain. Some were nudged awake with the news that it was finally time. Some woke early alerted to your coming by sweet whispers in the early morning. Some woke early to news of your coming by phone calls that rang out in the dark.
On the day you were born your people ate toast in the morning and wondered aloud how big (or small) you would be. Your people made guesses in person and by phone how long it would take till you were here.
On the day you were born your people waited nervous that the final precious baby would not be born safe and well.
On the day you were born your people climbed walls, and swung, and turned somersaults full of nervous energy with what the day might bring.
On the day you were born your people moved around houses and between houses all the while thinking of you coming and hoping that news of you would come soon.
On the day that you were born your people played and laughed and talked and ate and waited and wondered about you.
On the day you were born your people jumped at phone calls and text messages and waited with baited breath anticipating the news of you.
On the day you were born at 11:07am some of your people laboured and strained to bring you into the world while others played on unaware that you were making your grand entrance and taking your first breath.
On the day that you were born at 11:33am some of your people jumped once more to the sound of a text arriving. The message was passed from person to person amongst brothers, sister and friends. Finally we knew you were here.
On the day you were born your people didn't really know what was coming with you. What stories, what memories, what adventures you would bring. But we didn't care, we were so pleased that you were coming.
And finally so glad that you were here.
On the day you were born another tiny miracle happened and, your people, we were all so delighted to be a part of it.
Welcome little boy. I'm glad to be one of your people and I look forward to watching you grow.
It is awesome.
