Out and About: Lake Leschenaultia

Perth people can be somewhat funny about travelling around the region... they'll happily go to Bali but getting much out of their own suburb when they don't have to go to the airport can be a bit of a stretch. Just after we got here I asked heaps of locals if they had any good ideas for non-beach places to go on Christmas Day and got no suggestions. Later on we found out about Lake Leschenaultia of our own accord and I am so glad we did because it's lovely! And only about 35 easy driving minutes down the highway!

Our trip was an end of holidays commiseration (or celebration depending on whose view you were looking from).

There's two sides to the lake that people swim on- the loud over populated side with a shop, canoe hire and closer toilets. And the quieter side that has shade close to the shore and is closer to the camping ground, and mountain biking track- and generally MUCH nicer! I'm sure you can guess which we chose.

The swimming was lovely. The bottom of the lake is a slightly muddy sand- you can see through the water just fine- and it was really quite warm. We he wasn't with me Tama was perfectly safe pottering around the waters edge.

And Will was confidently blatting around with the swim noodle.

Kieran won't swim. And the lake not surprising doesn't have Wi-fi... (he wanted to stay home but we wouldn't let him- I'm kind of bummed that we are at this stage of teenagehood).

He did eventually get off his bum though.

We enjoyed a picnic lunch and headed back home after a few very enjoyable hours.
I totally recommend Lake Leschenaultia to any one who isn't afraid to leave their postcode. It's not far off the Great Eastern Highway in the Hills in the Shire of Mundaring.

We loved it at the lake too! Glad you had a great time, and you are back! I have text for a couple of times with no reply. Have you got a new number?
