Overnight

While we were sleeping 20 odd guests were munching their way through a relative truckload of food!

When I was younger my uncle Mike had a dog called Emma they used to have to do what they called 'Poo Patrol' to clean up Emma's mess off the lawn- the concept cracked me up, especially as I never had to do it. 25 years on and I am doing 'Poo Patrol' for 20+ (the number grows each day) Monarch Caterpillar guests currently residing in an Ice Cream container on the mantle in the lounge!
(Around 9pm last night)

Twice each day we go outside and score a handful of leaves off the swan plants (always bringing with them more tiny caterpillar guests) and at least every second day we transfer all the inhabitants to the alternate Ice Cream container and clear out the poo of which there is A LOT and which is comparatively HUGE and quite smelly!!

So far we have three chrysalis with a couple more Caterpillars likely to hang themselves up in the next couple of days!

(Around 9am this morning)

This is not a usual practice in our house but this year we planed the swan plants in the kids gardens and the plants are growing great guns but the Caterpillars had yet to make it past about 5mm until we brought them inside. I think the problem was a combination of ants and wasps. And so because we like to watch the process and because we love to help grow the Monarch population because they are so gorgeous we embarked on a conservation mission.

Which leaves me doing Poo Patrol for a bunch of ravenous guests.
And you know what I am so cool with that!
Sweet!
