Banksia

New Zealand has some very beautiful native flowers, think: Kowhai, Kaka's beak, Rata, Pohutakawa and even the very sweet Manukas. But they are all quite small and unassuming when compared to Australia's which much like the country itself are large, loud, weird and quite ostentatious. This Banksia is outside a house around the corner from us. I think it's a Banksia Burdettii- and it's one of the tamer  of the Baksias. It actually blows me away how very different the flora and fauna of two countries, so close together, are!
