Faction Carnival

Schools in Australia are divided into Factions as opposed to Houses as we have in NZ. I find it kind of weird because a Faction seems like something that is negative as opposed to a house which is more friendly and community based. Sports Days are therefore Faction Carnivals. This is also weird because they are competing so it's not really a Carnival- it's a competition. Confused?

Anyway Will is in Zamia (it's a flower- just like a Hovea and a Banksia). The colour for Zamia is green- hence the green shirt and the green hair.

His school has their Faction Carnival at the neighbouring sports field. The Pre-primary and Kindy kids compete first. Running races divided by class, house and sex.

It was a hot day but Will insisted on Trackies- he has a hard time transitioning between the seasons.

Then they have the fun tabloid type sports- Flag Races.

Egg and spoon- the eggs are glued to the spoons and in faction colours!

And then the relay.

There were three fixed teams for the three events and funnily enough each team placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd over the events.
