Eatings

The food is quite simply different here than it is in NZ in some ways it's better and in many ways it's so NOT. Les and I were having a conversation the other day about just how different the two countries are- you really expect them to be quite similar but they're not.

There's more tropical fruit here and it's way cheaper than NZ.

These are Dragon fruit they look awesome- they taste totally bland. But it's always fun to try something new! We've also had fresh Lychee which I hadn't before- there's something to be said for having your fruit from a can doused in sugar syrup. :-)

Lots of yummy salads over summer (and spring and autumn) this couscous one with homegrown tomatoes - yum!!

Still trying to perfect out homemade Caramel Frap recipe- thing is they don't sell Milkshake Syrup as we know it in NZ we need to get some Caramel Syrup from Starbucks because at the moment we're just using Caramel sauce and it's not the same.
An old favourite from our time in Nowra- Greens Chocolate Mud Cake- Yum!!

Some things are best shared!

This is what we buy in- not so much the chocolate because we really really don't need it. But we do go to the Kiwi shop for Tomato Sauce, Tuimato sauce, Chocolate Chippies, Shrewsbury's, Yeast, and Ice Cream!!

Hmmmm guess I've been holding these pics to post for a while- look how much hair he doesn't have!! Tama loves his food! Mostly he's a meat and fruit boy.

I'm not sure what it is about being here- maybe the 'Chefs Kitchen' but we've been making and baking a lot more than we did at home. Les Naan bread.

Another salad with Feta Cheese, Roast Pumpkin and Kumara, Orzo, Lettuce and Bacon Bits- fantastic!!

Strawberry and Pear muffins- the strawberry season here runs really, really long!! They had them when we arrived in August and you can still get locally grown ones now- thought less plentiful and therefore more expensive.

Don't carry the Banoffee Pie base and the baby at the same time because that wee dude is quick and he knows a good thing when he sees it!

Lemon Syrup cake- one of my absolute favourites- I just douse mine in the lemon syrup I love it so!

Kieran and I made Churros with chocolate dipping sauce at his request.

Play dough Jello Cookies via Pinterest. First you play and then you cook.

Fresh Guava- once again stick to the canned variety!

This was a failed gift for Will's Teachers Assistant. I baked it in a preserving jar and it was supposed to be layered rather than tie-dyed! But I needed to observe the recipe (blog post via Pinterest) more closely. My batter was too thin hence the Tie-dye. And there was enough so the jar was half empty. And if I did it again I'd use a smaller jar so it would cook faster and therefore look colourful and not browned on the outside. Oh I also need better food colouring! Still tasted good though!

The Jam Tarts.

Pinterest strikes again: pretzels!
Took me weeks to get around to making these. They were far from perfect but I have learned now and will definitely not wait so long to make them again.

Baking soda in the water- good times!

Over cooked, over salted and not very well formed but still delicious!!

And then Les made Chicken soup with Dumplings with a recipe from Cathy Zielske's blog that I had printed off. A bit salty, but the dumplings were good. Safety glasses are optional.
