The food was probably the biggest and most time consuming part of Will's Party.
Pinterest is both a blessing and a curse in these situations... so many good ideas, so little time (and money. These Rainbow sugar cookies were found there. They are actually pretty easy to make. Make cookie dough. Divide into 5 (or more or less if you desire) lots and then knead in the colours of your choice. Grab a small bit of each colour dough.
Form into a ball a little smaller than a golf ball.
Roll into a snake taking care not to combine the dough too much.
Then swirl into a circular biscuit.....
They look more exciting before they are baked.
I also made Cake Pops (nightmare!!!)
I had the cake pop baking tray which made it faster. And just used a packet chocolate cake mix and still had enough mix left to make a small cake for Will's actual birthday.
Use melted chocolate to fix the sticks into the balls. Then refrigerate again to make sure it's set. Sounds good in theory but it didn't work as well as you might think.
Pour melted chocolate over the pops.
Add sprinkles.
There are a bunch of tricks here like:
* making sure the balls have been almost frozen.
*making sure the melted chocolate is almost on the turning point to setting.
*having somewhere to put them while the chocolate is setting that won't tip with the top heavy weight of the cake pops.
It's not something I will do again in a hurry and I will never be Bakerella!
I also made rainbow jelly with six flavours in individual plastic cups. Took three days and I only forgot one flavour of jelly cooling in the freezer so not a bad effort.
I was so please that it occurred to me to have a rainbow platter of fruit- we were going to do kebabs which would have been a time consuming mistake because 4 & 5 year olds can be discerning in their fruit consumption. If you think that looks like a lot of fruit it was.... we had the best fruit salad after!
Lollies in cups divided by colour. Coloured Pop corn and some savoury snacks as well.
Salted Caramel Zumbo Macarons a must have.
And you can't go wrong with fairy bread.
